"Pre-history of mobile practices: genealogy of telepresence" (2016). In H. Tomita (ed.) The post-mobile society: From the smart/mobile to second offline

This paper collection definitely contains the most up-to-date and radical discussion on mobile society and its future. The concept of 'second offline' (coined by Tomita) depicts the converged condition of digital/virtual information superimposed on physical spaces. Researchers from varied backgrounds give concrete observation on 'second offline' situation from different perspectives. Although it is based on illustration on Japanese society, its suggestion heads for the socio-cultural prospect of mobile media and global society. My contribution is for chapter 2 on pre-history of telepresence and for chapter 11 to present an ethnography of media use after 3.11 earthquake in Japan originally published in another journal.
